Using a dual line sensor that combines the image quality of CCD sensors with the high speed of CMOS, sprint color cameras achieve line rates that have not been reached before with color line-scan cameras in this class, says manufacturer Basler. The maximum line rate is 70 kHz for the 2k and 4k resolution models and 39 kHz for the 8k model.

The manufacturer claims that this sensor concept provides high image quality and very low noise, even under low-light conditions and at high line rates. Color images generated by the CMOS dual line sensor have a pixel pitch of 10 µm. The two adjacent sensor lines have no gap between them and, thus, no spatial artifacts. The resulting image quality is particularly beneficial when inspecting rotating or moving objects.

Each pixel and the two sensor lines of the sprint camera can be controlled separately. This allows the camera to operate in one of three modes to achieve higher color fidelity, greater sensitivity, or direct RGB output.

The sprint cameras offer an AOI (area of interest) with speed increase, shading correction, test images, line stamps, and error-condition detection. Two types of shading correction—PRNU (photo response nonuniformity) and DSNU (dark signal nonuniformity)—allow users to correct image variations that can result from optics, lighting, or sensor performance.

Base price for sprint color cameras is 2990 euros.

    Genie GigE Vision-compliant Cameras
    DALSA
    www.dalsa.com

The Genie 1410 camera employs a Sony ICX285 2/3-in. CCD sensor that delivers 1360x1024-pixel resolution for industrial imaging applications in the semiconductor, robotics, and traffic-control industries. Part of the Genie family of GigE Vision cameras, the 1410 comes in both color (C1410) and monochrome (M1410) versions running at 22 fps at full resolution.

Acting as a single machine-vision component, the Genie 1410 integrates both advanced camera and board image-acquisition technologies in one small package. It also features a global electronic shutter with exposure control, flat-field correction, and onboard color conversion to produce crisp and clear images.

Like all Genie cameras, the 1410 is certified compliant with the AIA (Automated Imaging Association) GigE Vision standard for linking the camera to a PC. The 1410 uses the Gigabit Ethernet communications protocol to transmit data over standard CAT-5e and CAT-6 cables at distances of up to 100 m.

OEM price for the Genie 1410 is $2500.

In-Motion Measurement for WYKO 9000 Optical Profilers
    Veeco Instruments
    www.veeco.com

An option for WYKO 9000 optical profilers, In-Motion is the first fully automated, 3-D characterization system for dynamically moving devices, according to Veeco. You can use In-Motion to obtain rapid, quantitative 3-D surface and film thickness data of cyclically moving samples, such as MEMS devices.

The noncontact surface measurement system integrates a stroboscopic illuminator, drive electronics, data acquisition, and data analysis software to quantify surfaces of both static samples and those moving at up to 2.4 MHz with submicron height resolution and nanometer-level lateral motion resolution. In-Motion provides complete automation of focus, tilt, and measurement scan along with device control of voltage, frequency, and phase. These features, combined with the integrated pattern-recognition software, allow operator-independent measurement and quantification of defects.

Software automatically extracts in-plane and out-of-plane dimensions and topography for analysis of surface roughness, step heights, lateral dimensions, trench volumes, tilts, curvatures, and other surface properties. Dynamic properties, such as resonance frequency, modal analysis, velocity, acceleration, rise, and settling time, are also determined automatically. In addition, In-Motion supports user-created analyses. An In-Motion-enabled optical profiler offers complete MEMS characterization in research and development, failure analysis, and production control.

    The In-Motion package costs $55,000.

    MV-7L In-line AOI System
    MIRTEC
    www.mirtecusa.com

The MV-7L AOI system automatically inspects printed-circuit boards for manufacturing defects both pre- and post-reflow, providing in-line capability for increased throughput and enhanced fault coverage. This five-camera machine achieves inspection rates of up to 4940 mm-squared per second and accommodates board sizes ranging from 50x50 mm to 510x460 mm.

You can use the MV-7L to detect such defects as component presence or absence, polarity, misalignment, insufficient solder, and solder bridging. When fully configured, the system comprises one top-down camera with a native resolution of 4 Mpixels and four side-view cameras with a native resolution of 2 Mpixels. In addition, a quad-angle lighting system provides four independently programmable zones for optimal illumination of inspection areas.

The MV-7L’s integrated Intelli-Scan laser-inspection system precisely measures the z-height of a given region of interest. This technology provides lifted lead detection for gull wing devices, four-point height-measurement capability for coplanarity testing of BGA and CSP devices, and enhanced solder-paste measurement.

In addition, a three-stage conveyor system with programmable width control and automatic board clamping mechanism maximizes throughput of the line. Precision motion-control systems provide absolute reproducibility and repeatability, and an OCR engine provides advanced part marking inspection.

The MV-7L costs $130,000 fully loaded.

    OptiCon TurboLine AOI System
    GOEPEL electronic
    www.goepel.com

OptiCon TurboLine, an AOI system for the production-line inspection of printed-circuit boards, achieves high fault detection through the use of multiple cameras and Goepel’s Extended Colour Technology. All components and functions can be customized and configured to meet exact inspection requirements, as well as upgraded at a later date.

At the heart of the OptiCon TurboLine system is a modular camera system that can be configured with multiple cameras for orthogonal and angled-view inspection. A 20-Mpixel camera module provides microscopic resolution with telecentric image recording in an inspection area of approximately 17 cm-squared. The telecentric lens allows imaging of components and solder joints, regardless of their position in the field of view or their height extension, without any distortion or parallax error.

Extended Colour Technology produces realistic color images of detected faults that can be viewed at repair stations at different resolution levels. Camera modules for angled inspection completely cover the orthogonal camera’s inspection area. Selectable rotation angles of the angled-view modules allow the inspection of components in any angular position.

Prices range from $190,000 for a basic configuration to $380,000 for a fully equipped system capable of double-sided inspection.
