  • LMS and IPG Automotive enhance vehicle simulations

    Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 12/1/2006 2:00:00 AM

LMS International and IPG Automotive are integrating IPG-Driver, IPG's virtual driver model, into the LMS Virtual.Lab Motion software for vehicle ride and handling simulation. The tool can be used in vehicle-handling simulations for passenger cars, commercial trucks, race cars, and motorcycles.

LMS Virtual.Lab Motion enables manufacturers to integrate models of front- and rear-axle suspension systems into a full-vehicle model that includes the steering system, brakes, powertrain and driveline, electronic control systems, and tires. To provide insight into the vehicle's dynamic driving behavior, Virtual.Lab Motion uses real-life driving scenarios to “test drive” the vehicle model.

The addition of the Virtual Driver Model from IPG will extend the capabilities of Virtual.Lab Motion as it simulates test maneuvers such as steady-state turns, braking in a turn, braking on mu-split road surfaces, or changing lanes. The Virtual Driver Model includes driver operations such as steering, braking, accelerating, and gear shifting. It also covers simulations of complex closed-loop maneuvers, which is important for the development of control systems such as antilock braking systems (ABS) and electronic stability programs (ESP). www.lmsintl.com
