    DAC5682Z Digital-to-Analog Converters
    Texas Instruments
    www.ti.com

Boasting up to a 70% space savings over conventional data converters, the DAC5682Z is the first in a family of 16-bit, 1-Gsample/s digital-to-analog converters. The single-channel and dual-channel DAC family features an LVDS (low-voltage differential signaling) data input port at 1 Gbps, which provides signal bandwidth of up to 400 MHz.

With 2X and 4X interpolation, fs/4 and fs/8 mixing, low-pass or high-pass filtering, and a 2X to 32X clock multiplying PLL , the DAC5682Z offers flexible configuration options as well as support tools to ease design and speed time to market for base stations, wideband IF transmitters, and test and measurement equipment.

TI’s TSW3070 development kit provides a method of interfacing its high-speed DACs and amplifiers for wideband waveform-generation applications. The board includes the DAC5682Z, two current-feedback amplifiers, a complete clocking solution, and power-supply circuits.

DAC5682Z converters provide several configuration options to support different transmit architectures, such as direct up-conversion, real or complex IF, and different wireless air interfaces, including WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, WiMAX, and LTE. For an output frequency of 160 MHz, the devices achieve 73-dB ACPR for a single-carrier WCDMA application or 67 dBc for a four-carrier application.

Housed in a 64-pin QFN package, the DAC5682Z costs $31.95 in lots of 1000 units.

    DNR-12-1G Ethernet I/O Rack
    United Electronic Industries
    www.ueidaq.com

Aimed at industrial, aerospace, automotive, and laboratory data-acquisition and ATE applications, the DNR-12-1G is a rugged 3U Ethernet I/O rack. Though the backplane electronics are identical to UEI’s PowerDNA Cube series, the RACKtangle DNR series provides two Gigabit interfaces and slots for up to 12 I/O boards.

Front-loading slots allow the I/O boards to be quickly installed and removed. The backplane within the rack contains no active electronic components, ensuring the rack itself has an almost unlimited mean time between failures.

The DNR-12-1G comes with a CPU, two Ethernet network interfaces, two USB ports, indicator lights, timing/trigger interface, and power supply, along with its 12 I/O slots.

Over 30 different I/O boards are available, including analog-to-digital boards to measure voltage, current, strain, ICP/IEPE acceleration/vibration, temperature, and more. Other options include analog-output boards with outputs to ±40 V or ±50 mA, digital I/O interfaces for logic and real-world signal levels, counters and timers, quadrature encoder inputs, and communications interfaces for ARINC-429, MILD-STD-1553, RS-232/422/485, and CAN bus.

The DNR-12 rack works with Windows, Vista, Linux, and real-time operating systems. It is also fully supported by LabView, Matlab, Simulink, and DASYLab. Base price is $4250.

TEMPpoint Temperature Measurement Instrument for Ethernet (LXI)
    Data Translation
    www.datatranslation.com

The DT8871/72 is the Ethernet (LXI) version of Data Translation’s TEMPpoint temperature-measurement instrument. This network-ready version of the instrument provides a standard Ethernet connection to support remote monitoring and control of thermocouples, RTDs, and voltage or resistance in the field and on the factory floor.

TEMPpoint has received full Class C compliance and certification for LXI; the device offers 48 separate channels with 24-bit resolution, each with its own analog-to-digital converter and CJC circuit. Channel-to-channel isolation of 1000 V protects signal integrity and rejects common-mode noise.

Measurements can be done locally or remotely, and temperature channels can be expanded by simply adding more TEMPpoint instruments to the network. Temperature and voltage values can be viewed, graphed, or exported to Excel and allow limit checking for control or monitoring of a manufacturing process.

TEMPpoint ships with a ready to measure Web-based application that lets you configure, measure, and control the instrument either locally or remotely. Web pages are provided for configuring all aspects of TEMPpoint: local area network, input channels to measure, scan parameters, alarm limits, and digital I/O lines.

The DT8871 (thermocouple version) costs $3495; the DT8872 (RTD version) costs $3995.

    USB-1616HS-BNC Multifunction Data Acquisition Device
    Measurement Computing
    www.mccdaq.com

In addition to a USB interface, the USB-1616HS-BNC multifunction data-acquisition device combines synchronous and concurrent voltage input, waveform output, counter input, quadrature encoder input, and digital I/O. It also features a low-latency, highly deterministic control output mode that operates independently of a PC, so that digital, analog, and timer outputs can respond to analog, digital, and counter inputs a thousand times faster than products that rely on the PC for decision making.

The USB-1616HS-BNC has front-panel BNC connectors providing 16 differential analog inputs with 16-bit resolution and a sampling rate of 1 Msample/s. It offers seven software-selectable analog input ranges from ±10 V to ±0.1 V.

Through its rear-panel 37-pin D-Sub connector, the unit supplies two 16-bit, 1-Msample/s analog outputs with a range of –10 V to +10 V; 16 high-speed digital I/O channels; two timer outputs; and four 32-bit counters. You can operate all analog, digital, and counter/timer I/O in full synchronization.

The device comes with an extensive selection of software, including the TracerDAQ out-of-the-box datalogging, viewing, and analysis application; Universal Library programming libraries and drivers for most popular Windows-based programming languages; Universal Library for LabView; and the InstaCal installation, calibration, and test utility.

The complete USB-1616HS-BNC package, including technical support, sells for $1999.

    Wi-Fi Data Acquisition Devices
    National Instruments
    www.ni.com

The Wi-Fi Data Acquisition (DAQ) devices are a family of wireless measurement devices that make it easy to set up and acquire wireless measurements without compromising on the security or performance of a cabled solution. The devices combine IEEE 802.11 wireless or Ethernet communication, direct sensor connectivity, and LabView software for remote real-time monitoring and instantaneous analysis of electrical, physical, mechanical, and acoustical dynamic signals.

Wi-Fi DAQ devices can stream data on each channel at rates of more than 50 ksamples/s with 24 bits of resolution. In addition, built-in NIST-approved 128-bit AES encryption and advanced network authentication methods offer the highest commercially available network security, according to NI.

With Wi-Fi DAQ, you can easily incorporate secure wireless connectivity into PC-based measurement or control systems as well as remote monitoring applications. Engineers can also leverage Wi-Fi DAQ C Series I/O modules interchangeably with NI’s CompactDAQ, CompactRIO, and single-module USB carriers.

The Wi-Fi DAQ product family comprises five wireless device models and numerous accessories, with prices starting at $699.
