Signametrics' USB switching module works with DMMs
-- Test & Measurement World, 12/3/2008 9:00:00 AM
Compact and portable, the SMU4032 USB-based relay switching module from Signametrics enables your 6-1/2-digit or 7-1/2-digit DMM to maintain its full accuracy across your switching architecture. The multiplexer derives power directly from the USB, weighs less than 1 lb, and is only 5x7x1.3 in. for true mobility.
The 35 channels of the SMU4032 can be configured on-the-fly as a single 35:1 differential multiplexer, a 16:4-wire multiplexer, four independent 8:1 differential multiplexers, two 16:1 differential multiplexers, or as a 64:1 single-ended switch. Each of the relays can be controlled individually or automatically routed using predefined configurations. All switching actions are performed within a single actuation time of less than 5 ms.
Based on an isolated structure, the SMU4032 minimizes noise and keeps thermal EMFs to less than 1 µV. These low-thermal–EMF errors make it possible to accurately measure voltage in the millivolt range and resistance in the milliohm range. The SMU4032 also offers built-in self-test functions, including the capability to check for relay bounce duration, shorted or open relay contacts, and excessive contact resistance.
Plug-and-play software included with the relay switching module offers a graphical control panel for easy setup and control without programming. For automated control, the SMU4032 supports a variety of programming languages, including C, C++, C#, .NET, Visual Basic, MATLAB, Delphi, LabView, and HP VEE. It runs under any Windows operating system, as well as 32-bit and 64-bit Linux and INtime.
The SMU4032 costs $1295.
