Aeroflex Announces Product Enhancements During Microwave Show
-- Test & Measurement World, 6/20/2005 9:43:00 AM
Aeroflex chose the International Microwave Symposium 2005 (Long Beach, CA, June 14-16, www.ims2005.org) to announce extensions to its phase-noise offerings--including a low-cost tester and new downconverter--and enhancements to its synthesizer lineup.
The new phase-noise noise tester, the Model PN8000 ("Aeroflex Announces Compact 1.8-GHz Phase Noise Tester"), targets customers who need to perform phase-noise test but can't justify the cost of a high-end phase-noise tester, according to Guillaume De Giovanni, Aeroflex marketing manager. In particular, he said, the unit targets the plethora of crystal oscillators that appear in electronic products ranging from digital watches to personal computers. The PN8000, at $27,500, complements the company's more expensive PN9000 phase noise analyzer, which targets radar test applications, and the PN9500 wideband jitter and phase-noise analyzer, which De Giovanni described as the Swiss Army Knife of phase-noise testers.
For the PN9000 or PN9500, the company announced a new 1-GHz to 40-GHz (max) microwave downconverter, the Model PN9276, which allows phase-noise measurements at up to a 200-MHz offset. Base price is $57,750 for a 1-GHz to 18-GHz model.
Frequency synthesizers
The enhanced 2500 series frequency synthesizers are reportedly faster, cleaner, smaller, and more rugged than their predecessor, the FS5000, and also have improved reliability, according to the company. The 2500 series targets high-speed applications such as agile radar and radar simulators, radar upgrades, fast antenna and RCS (radar cross section) measurements, electronic warfare systems, and fast ATE applications. The modular design is impervious to vibration and can serve in airborne and ship-borne applications.
The 2500 frequency synthesizers are broadband sources operating over the range of 300 MHz to 26.5 GHz with a standard resolution of 1.0 Hz. The series has submicrosecond switching speed (200 ns) over the entire frequency range. The 2500 family can step from any frequency (F1) to any other frequency (F2), up or down, in 1 microsecond. Output amplitude is +10 dBm +2 dB into an impedance of 50 ohms. The 2500 family includes more than 30 models and is housed in a full 3U rack chassis with a front-panel keyboard for manual control plus GPIB and parallel binary-coded-decimal (BCD) interfaces for remote programming.
Four standard modules are available: 2513 (300 MHz to 13.5 GHz), 2518 (300 MHz to 18 GHz), 2520 (300 MHz to 20 GHz), and 2526 (300 MHz to 26.5 GHz). Other configurations are available for custom order.
Base price for a 300-MHz to 13.5-GHz Model 2513, $119,900.
