Three tools, the Air Access Network Emulator, the Universal Diagnostic Monitor (UDM), and the UMTS Automatic Test System (U-ATM) address the needs of WCDMA mobile-system development. The Air Access emulator uses an active protocol stack to emulate real network performance. The U-ATM works with the emulator to run analysis and characterization test suites, including 3GPP tests. The UDM allows automatic control and data collection for mobile devices based on Qualcomm and PrairieComm chipsets. Spirent Communications, Rockville, MD. 301-417-1224;
