IFSA releases evaluation board for sensor-system development
-- Test & Measurement World, 6/2/2009 9:00:00 AM
Canadian manufacturer OPTYS and the worldwide organization IFSA (International Frequency Sensor Association) announced the joint development of an evaluation board containing the UFDC-1 universal frequency-to-digital converter to help reduce the design time and development costs of building an intelligent sensor system. A high-speed version of the converter, the UFDC-1M-16, is also available.
The UFDC-1 frequency-to-digital converter covers a frequency range from 0.05 Hz up to 7.5 MHz without prescaling and 120 MHz with prescaling. The evaluation board gives access to all of the two-channel converter's functions, including 16 frequency-time measuring modes. It directly interfaces with frequency, period, duty-cycle, time-interval, pulse-width–modulated, pulse-number, and phase-shift output sensors and transducers. In addition, you can connect the board to a PC or master microcontroller through an RS-232 interface and operate it in master or slave communication modes.
External switches are supplied for mode and accuracy programming in the master communication mode, along with an external switch for I/O configuration and an 8-MHz calibration pin. An onboard LED indicates successful input and power supply connections.
The evaluation board, which is 73x66 mm and operates over a temperature range of –40°C to +85°C, comes with one converter in a 28-pin PDIP, CD software, and application notes. It sells for 95.00 Euros and is available through IFSA and its worldwide distribution partners.
