400-MHz Signal Source Comes In at Under $1000

Novatech Instruments has announced the Model 440A 400MHz Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) signal generator. It generates sine waves with programmable frequencies from 200 kHz to 400 MHz in 1-Hz increments. You can set the signal's relative phase in 0.022-degree increments. The 440A contains an internal TCXO that is stable to 2 ppm per year or you can lock it to an external reference such as a Cesium or Rubidium atomic standard. When locked to a standard, the 440A provides the same frequency accuracy as the standard.
The 440A is programmable through a set of text commands sent over an RS-232 serial interface. You can save the 440A settings in nonvolatile memory. You can also manually program the 440A through menu-based software. The 440A requires only a single 5-V supply, which is provided though an AC adapter.
Price: $995. Novatech Instruments, www.novatech-instr.com.
