SAN FRANCISCO, CA. Teradyne was on hand at Semicon West to highlight its market position in the wireless test market and to display the newest members of its Eagle Test family of testers. Rod Stewart, GM of Teradyne's SOC business group, cited Gartner research (Ref. 1) showing that Teradyne enjoyed a 66.5% share of the worldwide ATE RF testing market for 2008.
Teradyne's wireless device test instruments, the Gen4 Microwave and UltraWave 12G, handle test of RFICs and RF SOCs aimed at wireless LAN, Bluetooth, set-top box, 3G and 4G cellular, WiMAX, and LTE applications.
On the show floor, Teradyne highlighted its Eagle Test systems, including the new ETS-88, which supports multi-application operation and is like having four independent mixed-signal testers in a box, according to Stewart. The system includes multicore technology to support multiple applications. Each mini tester can drive its own handler or prober.
Teradyne also announced several system orders. AnalogicTech placed multiple system orders for the ETS-88 system from Teradyne's Eagle Test unit; the systems will test power-management devices, battery chargers, and LED driver devices. In addition, Teradyne said that Energy Micro, a fabless company based in Norway, became the 100th customer for Teradyne's Flex platform, which Energy Micro will use to test its ultra-low-power microcontrollers for battery-operated industrial and consumer appliances. In addition, announced Teradyne, BitWave Semiconductor (see "An RFIC for the world," ) selected a Teradyne UltraFlex system with UltraWave 12G instrumentation to test its software-defined radio products.
Finally, Teradyne announced that it and Galaxy Semiconductor Solutions have entered into a strategic alliance to jointly help customers optimize device quality and reliability by employing parts average testing and other defects-per-million reduction techniques. Under the terms of the agreement, Teradyne's Test Assistance Group's network of more than 500 applications engineers will offer applications engineering and integration services to customers who wish to deploy Galaxy's PAT-MAN software in a production environment. Teradyne and Galaxy will jointly market and deliver the solution.
