Adimec extends connectivity length of Camera Link cameras
-- Test & Measurement World, 8/4/2009 9:00:00 AM
Industrial camera manufacturer Adimec has launched a digital interface for its OPAL family of machine-vision cameras that is capable of sending power, general-purpose I/O, commands, and image data at very high speeds. An OPAL camera with a Camera Link interface powered by the new CoaXPress technology can be connected to a system using a single coax cable over distances of up to 50 meters (RG59 coax) or even longer with higher quality coax cables (such as RG6 coax).
CoaXPress was jointly developed by Adimec and EqcoLogic. EqcoLogic's proprietary equalizer devices enable the use of standard coaxial cables at fast data rates. The new cameras in the OPAL series are fully compatible with Camera Link specifications, but eliminate the drawbacks of Camera Link cabling with respect to length, flexibility, and ease of integration by employing CoaXPress technology as an internal interface. Camera Link configurations use stiff cables up to 10 meters in length, while CoaXPress supports lengths up to and over 50 meters using a very flexible coax cable. In addition, data rates far beyond Camera Link (Full) can be handled. This makes CoaXPress suitable for plug-and-play interfacing in current and future applications.
