  • Agilent scope targets MIPI and SATA applications

The 9000 Series includes the industry's first mixed-signal scope to support MIPI and SATA industry standards.

    -- Test & Measurement World, 10/21/2009 7:00:00 AM

Agilent Technologies has expanded its mixed-signal and digital-storage oscilloscope portfolio with two lower-cost 600-MHz Infiniium 9000 Series models, three new application packages, and GPIB compatibility. With these additions, the 9000 Series offers bandwidths from 600 MHz to 4 GHz and includes the industry's first mixed-signal scope to support MIPI (Mobile Industry Processor Interface) and SATA (Serial ATA) industry standards, according to the manufacturer.

The application packages capitalize on higher-bandwidth 9000 Series models. Emerging serial bus standards in the wireless mobile industry have created the need for teams to debug and test devices that meet MIPI-DPHY physical-layer standards. The 9000 Series mixed-signal scope offers MIPI-DPHY compliance test and protocol analysis to enable development of wireless mobile products employing MIPI standards.

Development teams working on electronic products that include storage may have cost constraints or legacy requirements that make SATA 1 a better choice than other interface technologies. You can use the 9000 Series to see SATA 1 information at the physical and protocol layers. For designs based on the faster 3-Gbps SATA II standard, Infiniium 90000 Series scopes offer both compliance and protocol support.

A new GPIB-to-LAN adapter enables GPIB applications on a computer to interface transparently with an instrument through its LAN interface as if it were a GPIB instrument. This adapter broadens the number of test environments that can be served by the 9000 Series scopes.

Infiniium 9000 Series instruments come standard with four scope channels. The 600-MHz DSO9064A costs $17,000, while the 600-MHz MSO9064A, which adds 16 logic channels, costs $21,000. Application package prices include: N8801A SATA protocol analysis, $1750; N8802A MIPI-DPHY protocol analysis, $1750; and U7238A MIPI-DPHY compliance, $4209. The N4865A GPIB-to-LAN adapter sells for $900.
