  • FiberVision's 5-Mpixel camera employs active PoE

High-speed inputs and outputs allow precise camera and flash light synchronization.

    -- Test & Measurement World, 10/26/2009 7:00:00 AM

An intelligent camera in a small industrial housing, the Nanosmart-PoE from FiberVision combines Vision Components' VCSBC4012 nano 5-Mpixel single-board camera with active PoE (Power over Ethernet) components. All interfaces are provided through an RJ45 plug and RJ48 plug.

The RJ45 PoE connection furnishes a 100-Mbps data interface, as well as a power supply. The RJ48 connection makes available eight digital 24-V inputs or outputs and a 24-VDC power supply. High-speed inputs and outputs are used for precise camera and flash light synchronization. The delay between flash trigger and exposure start is programmable, as is the flash time. Well-defined short exposure times are possible, even with the rolling shutter of the CMOS camera at 5 Mpixels.

Six LEDs on the Nanosmart-PoE camera display operational status. Their 3.3-V power supplies are made available on an OEM plug. They can also be used as additional outputs, together with a dedicated flash trigger. The PoE power supply is galvanically isolated from the inputs and outputs. Nanosmart-PoE can derive power from a PC, while it exchanges data with a PLC using the digital I/O. No equalizing currents or ground loops will occur.

The Nanosmart-PoE camera comes with a CS- mount and a 5-mm spacer ring for converting to a C-mount. An S-mount adapter is also available.

The company will launch the camera during Vision 2009, scheduled for November 3 to 5 in Stuttgart, Germany.
