  • IEEE-ISTO taps UNH-IOL for conformity-assessment initiatives

IEEE-ISTO and UNH-IOL will exchange information on the application of testing and conformance programs.

    -- Test & Measurement World, 10/28/2009 7:00:00 AM

The IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO), which manages the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP), and the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on conformity-assessment initiatives and activities associated with IEEE standards. Under the MoU, IEEE-ISTO and UNH-IOL will exchange information on the application of testing and conformance programs to selected standards and pursue program development that will enable new technology adoption. Conformity-assessment educational activities will also be explored to broaden industry awareness of these programs and to develop the skills of professionals executing such programs.

"We are excited about this collaboration with the UNH-IOL for the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program," said Rudi Schubert, ICAP Director. "Their broad technical capabilities and industry recognition, coupled with their commitment to developing engineers for emerging technologies, align with our goals to grow IEEE standards-based conformity programs and our initiatives to support the conformity-assessment community"

ICAP is focused on bridging IEEE standards development with the conformity-assessment activities that accelerate market acceptance and enablement of new products and technologies. IEEE-ISTO operates ICAP in collaboration with the IEEE Standards Association.

"UNH-IOL is delighted to expand our relationship with the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program. The goals of ICAP for accelerating market adoption of IEEE standards-based technologies mesh well with UNH-IOL's dual-mission goals of fostering multi-vendor interoperability through broad market adoption of standards and developing the next generation of engineers in the information, communications, and data-storage industries," said Erica Johnson, Director of UNH-IOL.
