Anritsu OTDRs test PON-based FTTx networks
The MT9083C measures ultra-long-haul fiber spans of more than 200 km.

Anritsu claims its ACCESS Master MT9083C series of OTDRs delivers the best optical performance in the 45-dB mini-OTDR class with high resolution and fast measurement distance acquisition for mid- to long-range (greater than 40-km) networks. The MT9083C allows field personnel to accurately and quickly test both conventional and PON-based FTTx networks.
With a dynamic range of up to 45 dB and a pulse width of just 100 ns, the MT9083C ensures complete and accurate measurement of ultra-long–haul fiber spans of more than 200 km. In addition, the MT9083C supports testing of 1x128 PON systems using either a single splitter or closely-spaced, distributed splitters. It produces dead zones of less than 1 meter and generates up to 150,000 data points for detailed fiber-measurement results.
According to the manufacturer, this performance translates into reduced testing time compared to other OTDRs. For example, the MT9083C tests a 100-km/62-mile fiber in as little as 6 seconds. What's more, many fibers can be tested in real time without averaging.
The MT9083C series of OTDRs simplifies measurements and makes them virtually error free with one-button fault location, pass/fail classification, automated file saving, and a macrobend-detection feature for identifying installation issues. All of the measurement functions and performance required for optical-fiber construction and maintenance are integrated into this compact and lightweight unit.
