  • Acces I/O's PCIe card packs up to 48 digital I/O channels

The card's 24 or 48 I/O lines are capable of sourcing 32 mA or sinking 64 mA.

    -- Test & Measurement World, 11/4/2009 7:00:00 AM

The PCIe-DIO-24/48S from Acces I/O Products gives you a choice of 24 or 48 high-current TTL digital I/O lines on a PCI Express card with a single-lane connector for use in any x1 or higher PCI Express slot. Digital I/O is compatible with the industry-standard 8255 PPI (Programmable Peripheral Interface) operating in Mode 0, making it easy to program and migrate from other Acces PCI digital I/O cards.

Each of the card's 24 or 48 I/O lines is buffered and capable of sourcing 32 mA or sinking 64 mA. Since the PCI Express x1 connector does not have sufficient power to drive this many channels, the PCIe-DIO-24/48S comes with an onboard Molex PC-style connector that is compatible with system power supplies to externally provide 5-V maximum current sourcing.

Connections to the card are made via two industry-standard 50-pin headers. Each header has three 8-bit I/O ports designated A, B, and C. Each port can be programmed as inputs or outputs. Change-of-state detection and interrupt capabilities relieve software from polling routines that can consume valuable processing time. Each port can be programmed for detecting state changes on its lines. An interrupt service routine then reads the port to determine which bit changed state and clears the interrupt.

The digital I/O card works with most operating systems and includes a free software package that is compatible with DOS, Linux, and Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, and 7. This package contains sample programs and source code in Visual Basic, Delphi, and Visual C++ for Windows. The card also comes with a graphical setup program for Windows.

The 24-channel PCIe-DIO-24S digital I/O card costs $279; the 48-channel PCIe-DIO-48S digital I/O card costs $379. OEM and volume pricing is available.
