  • Productronica 2009: Rohde & Schwarz debuts signaling test for cell standards, presents radar tester

The company's 67-GHz vector network amplifier, its broadband amplifier and EMI test receiver, and its 40-GHz signal and spectrum analyzer were also highlighted.

MUNICH, GERMANY—Rohde & Schwarz at Productronica 2009 (November 10–13, productronica.com/de) debuted a new signaling capability for its CMU500 production tester and presented a system for generating phase-coherent multichannel signals for testing radar receivers. The company also highlighted its recently introduced 67-GHz vector network amplifier, its broadband amplifier and EMI test receiver, and its 40-GHz signal and spectrum analyzer.

With the latest addition to its CMW500, Rohde & Schwartz has complimented the instrument's nonsignaling capability  with signaling capability. In production test, the adjustment of individual modules is usually carried out in a nonsignaling mode, while signaling test enables the verification of an entire device at the end of the production line. In the lab, the CMW500 can enable developers to zero in on various measurement parameters to optimize performance. At Productronica, Rohde & Schwarz demonstrated the test of a handset using the CMW500 to simulate various base-station functions.

For radar test applications, Rohde & Schwarz presented a system combining R&S signal generators in a flexible PXI-compliant test system. In the Productronica demonstration, three R&S SMBV signal generators enabled the test of three-channel monopulse radars such as those used in air-traffic control systems. By using the appropriate number of signal generators, users can generate up to 10 phase-coherent RF signals. An integrated signal and spectrum analyzer performs internal system calibration and provides accurate test results over temperature by recalibrating during startup or after temperature changes. An R&S CompactTSVP PXI platform serves as the interface to the radar receiver under test.

Also on display were the R&S ZVA67 10-MHz to 67-GHz vector network analyzer, its R&S BBA100 broadband amplifier system, and the R&S ESC17 EMI test receiver.
