LinkTest BER testers from GL Communications are handheld instruments that can be used to test almost any interface. These portable units test a wide variety of digital interfaces, such as T1, E1, T3, and E3, as well as asynchronous and synchronous data interfaces, including RS-232, RS-422, V.35, and X.21.
Three models are available to fulfill the requirements of a broad range of applications for testing data communications equipment, networks, systems, and line facilities. The LinkTest Single accommodates data rates of 50 bps to 10 Mbps, while the LinkTest Single+ and LinkTest Dual provide data rates of 50 bps to 50 Mbps. All three units display G.821 performance measurements and operate from AC or battery power. LinkTest can be controlled through the front panel, VT100 console, Windows GUI, command-line interface, or local/remote terminal.
GL Communications also offers LinkSim, which simulates a variety of communications links, allowing you to insert delays and errors to determine the effects these impairments will have on your system. LinkSim includes six pairs of interfaces: RS-232, RS-422/530, V.35, X.21, HSSI, and T1/E1. It can introduce propagation delays in either or both directions. Propagation delays can be up to 1.999 seconds per direction for speeds up to 2.048 Mbps and up to 500 ms for speeds from 8.192 Mbps to 50 Mbps. LinkSim can inject logic, ones, zeros, timing slips, bit, burst, frame, BPV, CRC, FDL, signaling, block, C-bit, and P-bit errors in either or both directions.
