NEMs (network equipment manufacturers) and NSPs (network service providers) can stress-test their networks using real-world network traffic in a lab environment with EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering's MCM Gigabit Ethernet interface series of test modules. According to the company, the MCM Gigabit Ethernet interface series delivers four times more capacity per port than the closest competitor for effectively developing and deploying VoIP (voice-over-IP) and IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) networks. These high-performance and high-capacity networks need to be verified in the lab before deployment to ensure they meet capacity and performance expectations, while ensuring that an acceptable level of quality-of-customer-experience can be delivered. A single module in the MCM Gigabit Ethernet interface series can emulate up to 256,000 unique VoIP/IMS subscribers and 64,000 voice/video streams, while performing quality analysis on every stream in real time.
Housed in the InterWatch R14 and QualityAssurer QA-604 platforms, the MCM Gigabit Ethernet interface series is backward-compatible with existing software options. With the MCM Gigabit Ethernet interface series, a single 2U QA-604 platform can support 512,000 emulated VoIP/IMS subscribers and 128,000 voice/video streams, while the 9U R14 platform can support 1.2 million emulated VoIP/IMS subscribers and 320,000 voice/video streams.
