  • Sherborne digital tilt indicators boast 0.001° resolution

The DTI series of panel meters accept output from Sherborne gravity-referenced inclinometers, as well as other manufacturers' products.

    -- Test & Measurement World, 1/4/2010 11:07:54 AM

The DTI series of 5-digit programmable digital panel meters from Sherborne Sensors performs tilt measurement, converting inclinometer output to display angle with a resolution down to 0.001°. The panel meters accept output from Sherborne gravity-referenced inclinometers, as well as other manufacturers' products, and make the necessary trigonometric conversions to display the output as an angle.

For seamless interface with a data-acquisition system, each panel meter provides two supplementary outputs, an analog voltage output and an RS-422/485 serial output. The enclosure of the DTI series meter is manufactured from recyclable and flame-retardant materials, with front-panel conformance to IP65 and NEMA 4 standards.

Meters in the DTI series can be implemented into simple measurement-only applications, as well as those requiring digital communications, alarms, and mathematical functions. Menu-driven software enables setup from the front panel or via a serial communications link. In addition, built-in alarm functions make the meters suitable for monitoring, switching, and control functions. A hysteresis facility prevents noisy signals from switching alarms erroneously, with high and low deviations facilitating control around a set point. On and off delay times can be set with individual alarms, configured as latching or non-latching.

An integral 12-VDC power supply is intended to provide excitation voltage for MEMS- based inclinometers. Bipolar-voltage-supplied inclinometers can also be powered with Sherborne's XT-0102 or XT-0103 series power-supply modules. For customer convenience, the DTI series can be supplied as a completely calibrated tilt monitoring system, including the inclinometer.
