  • GL updates SS7 network monitoring system

    The NetSurveyor user interface lets you view real-time and historic data.

    -- Test & Measurement World, 2/9/2010 7:00:00 AM

    To keep pace with the evolution of SS7 (Signaling System 7) for fast, efficient signaling, GL Communications has enhanced its SS7 network monitoring and diagnostic system. In addition to billing verification, remote protocol analysis, and traffic engineering, the system can now provide key performance indicators, failure analysis, and call-trace capability.

    The SS7 monitoring system is based on an open three-tier distributed architecture driven by nonintrusive hardware probes, intelligent software, and a database engine. This modular and distributed architecture is capable of theoretically infinite capacity. The system allows network operators, service providers, and equipment manufacturers to perform surveillance and monitoring tasks remotely, automatically, and nonintrusively. Key elements of the SS7 network monitoring system include:

    -T1/E1 hardware probes that nonintrusively monitor the physical lines of the network;
    -ODBC-compliant central database that stores data collected by the probes;
    -WebServer providing real-time and historic views of the data through various browser-based clients; and
    -NetSurveyorWeb, a Web-based client that accesses results provided by the GL SS7 and ISDN signaling probes via a Web server.

    The NetSurveyor user interface lets you view real-time and historic data, including call ID, probe name and location, call disposition, called and calling number, and call duration. It also allows you to filter the call records using a variety of filtering mechanisms, including time, date, called/calling numbers, and SS7 OPC/DPC codes.
