Outfitted with four independent Gigabit Ethernet ports, the PacketExpert from GL Communications connects to a PC through a USB 2.0 interface to provide Ethernet/IP testing at wire speed. The portable instrument performs both BER testing and RFC 2544 testing and is capable of displaying the details of each port independently.PacketExpert lets you test all protocol layers, from raw Ethernet to IP/UDP packets. It can be used for general-purpose Ethernet performance analysis for 10/100-Mbps and 1-Gbps Ethernet LANs, while two of its four ports have both electrical and optical interfaces to enable testing of optical-fiber links.
Other important features of the PacketExpert Ethernet tester include:
· Wire-speed BERT over raw unframed Ethernet (Layer 1), Framed Ethernet (Layer 2), IP, and UDP on two ports simultaneously;
· Bidirectional RFC 2544 testing supporting throughput, latency, frame loss rate, and back-to-back on two ports; and
· Bit error insertion, detailed frame statistics per port, loopback capability for incoming traffic, and the capability to generate and respond to ARP (address resolution protocol) requests.
Comprehensive information for the tester can be found on the PacketExpert product page located at www.gl.com/packetexpert.html.
