Intended for DWDM (dense wavelength-division multiplexing) network commissioning and high-speed network upgrades up to 40G, the FTB-5240S OSA (optical spectrum analyzer) from EXFO now operates 10 to 20 times faster, depending on the application being run. It can also be equipped with in-band OSNR (optical signal-to-noise ratio) measurement capabilities for accurate measurements of next-generation ROADM (reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer) and 40G systems in which noise can fluctuate from channel to channel.According to the manufacturer, the processing speed increase of the FTB-5240S significantly accelerates applications. For example, the analyzer performs all acquisitions 10 times faster. Re-analysis using different parameters is 14 times faster, and trace loading is 20 times faster.
The FTB-5240S OSA module is housed in either the FTB-200 compact platform or the FTB-500 platform. When used inside the FTB200, the OSA forms a small, portable solution for spectral characterization of next-generation networks. Equipped with in-band OSNR measurement in the FTB-500 platform, the OSA can be combined with the FTB-8140 Transport Blazer 40/43-Gbps SONET/SDH test module to create a ROADM, POTS (plain old telephone service), and 40-Gbps test solution.
