VarioTAP IP supports DaVinci

Preconfigured IP covers all DMSoC interfaces up to real-time tests of the communication interfaces.

Goepel electronic has announced that it has developed VarioTAP IP for Texas Instruments' TMS320DM3xx Series DaVinci DMSoC (Digital Media Systems-on-Chip). The VarioTAP IP enables the utilization of dynamic PET (processor emulation test) for detection and diagnosis of faults on board and at system level, supporting fast programming of connected memory media. The user benefits are a significant increase in fault coverage and savings in additional investments for other test and programming equipment. The preconfigured IP covers all DMSoC interfaces up to real-time tests of the communication interfaces.

"Many of our customers utilize the high-performance DaVinci processors for their multimedia applications," said Thomas Wenzel, managing director of Goepel's boundary scan division. He added that these customers require dynamic at-speed tests in addition to boundary scan, and that the new VarioTAP IP supports such tests as well as offering options for fast memory media programming via LAN. "Users can combine the advantage of high test depth with short process cycles on a unique platform," he concluded.

The TMS320DM3xx series includes a number of complex system-on-chip circuits, controlled via an ARM9 core. The VarioTAP IP's PET strategy enables a functional at-speed test of all peripheral TMS320DM3xx interfaces, such as USB, LAN, I²C, SPI, DDR2, UART, and video at chip, board, and system level. In addition, VarioTAP supports fast programming of  connected memory media via LAN-based transfers. Goepel reports that in high-speed mode, eMMC (embedded MultiMediaCard) chips of more than 2 GB can be programmed in 169 seconds.
