  • Cognex ID reader boasts intelligent tuning

The unit offers a choice of resolutions, lighting modules, and lenses.

    -- Test & Measurement World, 1/18/2012 7:00:00 AM

A fixed-mount industrial ID reader, the DataMan 300 from Cognex handles difficult-to-read DPM (Direct Part Mark) codes, as well as challenging 1-D linear barcodes and 2-D Data Matrix codes, even on high-speed lines. Intelligent tuning automates the settings of the reader's integrated lighting to find the optimal light setup for each part.

The DataMan 300 increases barcode read rates and speed with the 1DMax+ algorithm, which incorporates Hotbars technology. Hotbars uses texture to locate barcodes at any orientation and then extracts high-resolution 1-D signals for decoding. For 2-D matrix and DPM codes, reading performance is improved with the upgraded 2DMax+ algorithm. 2DMax+ provides enhancements in handling damaged codes at high line rates, as well as poorly marked and extremely damaged codes.

DataMan 300 offers a choice of two resolutions: 800x600 pixels and 1280x1024 pixels. Controllable, field-interchangeable lighting modules let you create the best possible lighting for your application, while C-mount, S-mount, and variable-focus liquid lens options maximize depth-of-field flexibility.
