  • Newport's sensor transmitters operate on WiFi network

Supplied software collects data and serves it to Web-browsing clients.

    -- Test & Measurement World, 2/8/2012 7:00:00 AM

Newport Electronics wSeries of transmitters can be used to create a wireless sensor system that communicates over a standard WiFi network. Transmitter models are available for monitoring analog voltage and current, temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure.

Each unit comes with the Virtual Coordinator, a datalogging software application that runs on a network-connected computer. The software collects and logs data from the transmitters and serves it to Web-browsing clients. You can view charts and graphs, as well as monitor and record readings from virtually any type of transducer over an Ethernet network or the Internet from any computer, tablet, or smart phone using a Web browser. The wSeries can even trigger an alarm if variables go above or below a user-defined setpoint.

Housed in a rugged weatherproof case with a NEMA4/IP65 rating, the WiFi transmitters can be powered by batteries or AC (110 V to 240 V). The devices operate over a temperature range of −10°C to +55°C and at 90% RH noncondensing.

    Base price: $195.
