Measure Your Geek Quotient

Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 7/1/2000

Score: 41-50
Super Geek

Geeky and proud of it. It seems you are a comfortable resident of Geekdom, and it doesn’t bother you a bit. You tend to be obsessed with the aspects of society that annoy you. But if you are living a happy and fulfilling life, go with it. If you are seeking change, however, here are some tips for reducing your geek quotient: Talk to people in person about things they care about, buy pants that touch the middle of your shoe, and go out and explore the world every once in awhile.

Score: 31-40
On the Fringe

You’re the middleman. “On the fringe” geeks possess some idiosyncratic qualities, but usually don’t realize how geeky they can seem to others. Often, these types of geeks resemble Dilbert cartoons, mocking what they dislike about Geekdom. But they can cross over into mainstream society fairly easily. They know what is cool and popular, they just don’t always take the road most traveled.

Score: 0-30
Out of Place

In your office, you are a style machine. You often wonder how on earth you got here, and you fear you might become a geek by osmosis. On the one hand, you have a hard time fitting in with your colleagues, but on the other hand you’re not sure if you want to. You probably should have chosen another profession, but maybe you can revolutionize your office—all by yourself.
