Ionizer
The Ion Viper air nozzle uses compressed air or nitrogen to neutralize electrostatic charges and facilitate the removal of charged particles. The nozzle lets you direct the air stream to a small area, and a foot pedal permits "hands-free" operation. ESD Systems.com, Marlboro, MA. 508-485-7390; www.esdsystems.com .
Electrostatic voltmeter
TREK's Model 323 electrostatic voltmeter is useful for measuring charge accumulation on disk-drive assemblies and other ESD-sensitive components. The detected output voltage can be monitored though a 1:1 voltage monitor output and a switch-selectable 10:1 or 20:1 voltage monitor output. TREK, Medina, NY. 585-798-3140; www.trekinc.com .
Ionizing bars
The PIB3000 pulsed DC ionizing bars from Semtronics are designed for automated production environments in which conveyor belts can generate high levels of static energy. The overhead bars are available in 1-, 2-, 4-, or 6-ft lengths. An LED display shows the speed of ionization, the decay time, and the positive/negative balance; users can adjust all three through a remote-control unit. Semtronics, Garden Grove, CA. 714-799-9810; www.semtronics.com.
Datalogger test station
Desco's Data Logger Test Station lets workers identify themselves by waving an ID card, and then the system automatically logs ESD results from wrist-strap and footwear tests. The system is designed to comply with ISO 9000 logging requirements, and output data can be sorted, viewed, and printed in Windows format. Desco, Chino, CA. 909-627-8178; www.desco.com.
Static-control product brochure
ACL Staticide's brochure features a variety of products that can help you eliminate static problems. Products include floor coatings and primers, static-control and cleaning wipes, and static-detection meters. ACL Staticide, Elk Grove Village, IL. 847-981-9212; www.aclstaticide.com.
Laminates
Nevamar's static-dissipative laminates provide durable work surfaces suited for electronically sensitive applications performed in a range of humidity conditions. A uniform resistance to ground is maintained from any point on the surface. Typical values range from 106 to 109 Ω, measured at 100 V. Nevamar, Odenton, MD. 410-778-2184; www.nevamar.com.
Static-dissipative mat
The static-dissipative Cleanroom Bench Mat is non-particulating and non-outgassing and comes with a two-year warranty. It is available in black or gray as a 24-in. x 18-in. mat or a 24-in x 40-ft roll. Dycem, Warwick, RI. 401-738-4420; www. dycem.com.
Static monitor
The 3M 790 static monitor measures the voltage potential on a person referenced to ground. An operator inserts a dual conductor ground cord into one of the input jacks located on the monitor and uses a slide switch to select the necessary voltage level. 3M, Austin, TX. 800-328-1368; www.3M.com.
Garment test kit
The PGK820 garment test kit measures the resistance of static-control garments. The kit features Prostat's PSI-870 resistance instrument for measuring sleeve-to-sleeve and point-to-point resistance. The kit includes garment clips, test leads, and instructions. Prostat, Bensenville, IL. 630-238-8883; www.prostatcorp.com.
Electrostatic field meter
The Model 222 electrostatic field meter has switchable voltage sensitivities of 2000 V full scale with 1-V resolution at ¼-in. spacing and 20,000 V full scale with 10-V resolution at 1-in. spacing. A built-in 500/1000-V power supply enables you to calibrate the measurement setup and perform measurements where test objects or technicians need to be charged to a known voltage level. Price: $1295.
