Systems ID tires and wheels
The TIS-8000 Tire
Identification System provides high accuracy, in-process verification, and
identification of tires using machine-vision software for recognizing tire
treads and sidewalls. Applications include tracking and sorting tires during
manufacturing and verifying the correct tire models prior to mounting onto
wheels. The WIS-8000 Wheel Identification System automatically recognizes wheel
spoke patterns, wheel finish, and other features to ensure the presence of
correct wheels. Applications include identifying wheels prior to balancing to
trigger proper balance routine and ensuring that the correct wheels are paired
with the correct tires for a vehicle. Cognex , Natick, MA. 508-650-3000; www.cognex.com.
Toolkit Links LabView, Simulink
The LabView Simulation Interface Toolkit lets design engineers link LabView with Simulink to control and view Simulink model data and run Simulink models in LabView. The toolkit imports control models developed in Simulink directly into LabView and automatically generates the LabView graphical code that design engineers can use to verify their models. In addition, engineers can use the toolkit in rapid prototyping applications and hardware-in-the-loop testing. National Instruments , Austin, TX. 800-258-7022; www.ni.com.
Optical breadboards are vacuum-enclosed
Designed for operations to 1 micron, optical breadboards from Vere include feedthroughs for power and sensors as well as optical windows and gas entry ports. Temperature-controlled enclosures are available, as are complete turnkey systems. Applications include atmospheric tests, high-altitude simulation, and vacuum testing. Vere , New Kensington, PA. 724-335-5530; www.vere.com.
Datalogger records GPS data
The TDS2020GDL uses the Sapphire GPS module to track and store location information as well as data from other sensors. The device can be used to monitor pressures, temperatures, door closures, and other information, making it easy to correlate these measurements with vehicle location. The device uses PC Card or Compact Flash memory to store data, and it comes with Datalogger Wizard software that makes it easy to program and transfer data. VXI DMMs provide high accuracy
The Model 3801 and Model 4801 are 6½ -digit DMMs in VXI format. They provide a variety of source and measurement functions, including LCR measurement capabilities. The Model 3801 provides a single M-Module slot for auxiliary functions, while the Model 4801 has the Ascor Signal Guard switching system interface. Ascor , Fremont, CA. 510-490-2300; www.ascor-inc.com.
Strain-gage card provides eight channels
The AP815 interface card connects up to eight strain gages to your data-acquisition system. It allows the connection of single strain gages in a four-wire, quarter-bridge configuration or six-wire, half-bridge or full-bridge configurations. Five excitation voltages are available, providing a measuring range of 8 mV/V to 80 mV/V. HBM , Marlborough, MA. 800-578-4260; www.hbm.de.
RF immunity tester is self-contained
The Model CWS500D has all of the instrumentation needed to perform conducted RF immunity tests. The unit contains a signal generator, directional coupler, power amplifier, controller, and Windows-based software. The 100-W RF amplifier has a bandwidth from 10 kHz to 400 MHz, and the unit comes with a GPIB interface that allows the user to connect to an external power meter for measuring forward power and monitoring the injected RF current. Amplifier Research , Souderton, PA. 800-933-8181; www.amplifiers.com.
SBC has CAN interface
You can use the SF-1004 single-board computer in CAN bus test systems or as an RS-232-to-CAN protocol converter. It features a real-time clock for test datalogging, nonvolatile SRAM, six interrupt sources, time/date power-on, external wake trigger, and four alarms. The board also has two CPLDs for creating onboard peripherals, and additional power-management options. SeaFire Micros , Beverly, MA. 866-473-2347; www.seafiremicros.com.
Brochure details laser sensors and accessories
A new brochure, "Laser Measurements for the Rubber and Tire Industry," describes a line of laser sensors designed for rubber and tire quality-control applications. The brochure discusses both online and off-line applications and sensor solutions, including offset and overlap measurement, green rubber radial and lateral run-out measurement, tire side-wall inspection, and tread-wear analysis.
