Instrument performs ramp communications tests
The IFR 4000 handheld ramp test set measures VHF/UHF transmitter frequency, output power, modulation (AM and FM), receiver sensitivity, and VHF/UHF antenna or feeder standing wave ratio (SWR). For tests of instrument landing systems (ILS), it can simulate ILS localizer (108.10 to 111.95 MHz), glideslope (329.15 to 335.00 MHz), and marker-beacon (75 MHz with selectable 400-, 1300-, and 3000-Hz tones) signals. A swept-localizer variable difference in depth of modulation (DDM) feature supports coupled AutoPilot testing. The 8-lb. instrument has a 5.7-in. LCD and has an 8-hr battery life. Test instrument aims at SatCom market
The CNG SatCom carrier-to-noise generator measures the performance of satellite receivers by simulating the real-world effects of noise from the atmosphere while varying the power of the carrier signal. Key features include constant noise output, make-before-break carrier attenuator, and selectable 50/75-Ω impedance. Micronetics Wireless, Hudson, NH. 603-883-2900; http://www.micronetics.com .
Vibration testers come with three-year warranty
A new line of electrodynamic vibration testers use IGBT amplifier technology to provide cross-axial and rotational restraint for testing small to moderately large payloads. The testers range in size from 40 to 13,600 lbf and are supplied with digital switching power amplifiers that can also be purchased separately to replace older generation AB, C, and MOSFET-style D class amplifiers. Measurement filter helps characterize switching amplifiers
The AUX-0025 switching amplifier measurement filter meets the measurement needs of chip designers and amplifier manufacturers who work with switching amplifiers. It provides the necessary attenuation of out-of-band signals and reduces the steepness of the fast switching edges by preconditioning the signal before presentation to the analyzer. Its passive design yields a broad dynamic range without range switching, avoids the noise and distortion that can be added by active circuitry, is inexpensive, and makes operation simple. C-size mainframe is portable
The CT-310A is a five-slot, C-size portable mainframe that provides over 500 W of total usable power and uses an advanced plenum design that provides plenty of cooling for VXI instrumentation and switching. All of the VXIbus power-supply voltages are accessible on the rear panel for powering external devices, and each is protected with a self-healing fuse. Additionally, a field-replaceable power supply and fan assembly simplifies maintenance and greatly decreases mean-time-to-repair. VXI Technology, Irvine, CA. 949-955-1894; http://www.vxitech.com .
Simulators test aircraft radar equipment
Used for both training and receiver testing, Cubic's High Density Simulation System (HIDESS) simulators emulate a variety of radar signals in real-time, dynamic environments. The signals—representing surface-to-air, air-to-air, and air-to-ground missile threats—are injected into an aircraft's radar warning receivers and flight software to evaluate the receiver's performance. The Cubic electronic warfare (EW) products are currently available in three configurations: the standard HIDESS for the complete EW facility; the Tester, a desktop system for laboratory use; and the Attache, a laptop configuration intended primarily for portable use. Analyzer measures up to 92 channels
The PULSE 7.0 analyzer can be used in applications ranging from basic two-channel sound-and-vibration analysis to high-end 92-channel modal analysis. Features of this new version include input modules for measurements to 200 kHz per channel, acoustic beam forming for advanced noise source location, operating deflection shapes (ODS) for structural analysis, a database utility for organizing test results, and acquisition of auxiliary data such as wind speed and temperature. Chambers provide salt fog for corrosion tests
Available in sizes from 9.3 ft3 to 2508 ft3, the SCCH series of chambers perform salt fog, water fog, and other corrosion tests. Features include a seamless vinyl lining, a see-through acrylic cover for test observation, a microprocessor-based controller, and extensive controls for controlling test conditions. The standard operating temperature is 120°F, but higher temperatures are also available. Singleton, Cleveland, OH. 888-456-0643. http://www.singletoncorp.com .
Dynamometer emulates engines
The Engine Torque Pulsation Simulation (ETPS) dynamometer emulates engines, making it easier for vehicle manufacturers to test their powertrains and front-end accessory devices (FEAD). The system features low inertia and uses a real-time model for engine configuration and combustion. This combination accurately predicts the high-frequency torsional pulses that any gasoline or diesel engine produces—even those not in production. The manufacturer claims that the system does not produce exhaust emissions and it doesn't need complex real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulators. Chambers control both heat and vacuum
The Tenney Thermal Vacuum Chambers can create internal vacuums as low as 10—7 torr; have overall thermal capabilities from liquid nitrogen temperature to +150°C, and chamber sizes ranging from 2 to 8 ft in diameter. Options include temperature and vacuum recording, viewing windows, and power and thermocouple feedthroughs.
