System handles 2-D and 3-D x-ray chores
The µCT-F.O.X. combines 2-D x-ray technology with 3-D computed-tomography and volume-rendering software to provide inspection and analysis of electronic devices. Able to inspect sensors, microelectromechanical structures, and medical devices, it can pinpoint cracks, delaminations, and other anomalies. Its proprietary True X-ray Intensity (TXI) feature constantly controls x-ray output intensity during image acquisition. FeinFocus, Stamford, CT. 203-969-2161; www.feinfocus.com .
Laser mirrors
Two new types of mirrors join Edmund's existing family of high-power and diode laser mirrors. The first is a line of mid-power fused silica mirrors that provide a reflectance of greater than 98% for wavelengths ranging from 454 nm to 529 nm, with a peak reflectance of greater than 99.5% at the design wavelength of 488 nm. They also feature a damage threshold of 1 kW/cm2
continuous wave, making them suitable for use with argon ion sources. The second is a series of broadband fused silica mirrors that deliver reflectance from 700 nm to 1100 nm. With an average reflectance of greater than 99% across the entire range and a damage threshold of 300 W/cm2
continuous wave, these mirrors are useful for Ti:sapphire and IR diode lasers. Edmund Optics, Barrington, NJ. 856-573-6250; www.edmundoptics.com .
Hygrothermometer
Telatemp's small, portable hygrothermometer records up to 15,000 humidity, temperature, dew-point, and wet-bulb measurements. The unit measures humidity levels from 30% to 95%, accurate to within W3%, and temperature from S4-F to R140-F, accurate to within W0.9-F. Time- and date-stamped data is available in list or graph form using the supplied Windows-compatible software. Telatemp, Fullerton, CA. 714-879-2901; www.telatemp.com .
Backplane test system
Customized to suit your application, Cirris' compact distributed-test-point backplane test system includes all the software and hardware you need for backplane testing. Test electronics are mounted directly onto cards that plug into the backplane, eliminating the tangled mess of interface wiring. A custom test bed is milled, into which the backplane to be tested is placed. A card cage cassette holds the interface cards manufactured with the appropriate connectors. The system tests backplanes of up to 32,000 points for continuity and also checks resistors, diodes, and capacitors at a typical speed of up to 200 points/s. Cirris Systems, Salt Lake City, UT. 801-973-4600; www.cirris.com .
Temperature/humidity monitors
Two stand-alone systems, the LTM-8201C and LTM-8203C, accommodate up to 32 inputs for temperature and humidity monitoring and control. The LTM-8201C provides 12-bit temperature monitoring on 16 inputs, while the LTM-8203C provides 16 temperature-only inputs and 16 temperature/humidity inputs. Each system offers a panel-mount controller with a simple push-button interface, LED display, and RS-485 port to interface with a PC for datalogging and control. Price: LTM-8201C—$395; LTM-8203C—$450. Azova, Akron, OH. 330-535-8685; www.azova.com .
3G UMTS test system
Specifically designed for performing 3G/UMTS radio resource management (RRM) tests, the CRTU-RRM comprises protocol testers for simulating WCDMA and GSM cells, as well as a baseband fading simulator and spectrum analyzer. Together, the instruments implement the RRM test cases in tree and tabular combined notation (TTCN) source code to ensure that user equipment is in compliance with the 3GPP specification. Rohde & Schwarz, Munich, Germany. +49-89-4129-13779; www.rohde-schwarz.com .
LED ring light
The Model RL72 high-intensity ring light for inspection microscopes provides 360- of white illumination to eliminate shadows, while using less than 5 W of power. What's more, it has an estimated lifetime of more than 25 years. It requires 360 mA at 15 VDC and comes with an AC adapter. Price: $482. Orled, Tigard, OR. 503-968-1375; www.orled.com .
Infrared thermometer
Small enough to fit in your pocket, the Model IR201 infrared thermometer measures surface temperatures from –58°F to +518°F or –50°C to +270°C with 1° resolution. The meter has a built-in laser pointer, and its narrow field of view measures a 1-in. target at a distance of 6 in. Fixed emissivity of 0.95 covers 90% of surface temperature applications. The Model IR201 offers data hold and max hold functions, as well as visual overrange indication. Price: $69. Extech Instruments, Waltham, MA. 781-890-7440; www.extech.com .
