Intertek approved for lighting "e" mark testing
Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 9/1/2003
The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) of the UK has approved the ETL SEMKO division of Intertek (headquarters in Boxborough, MA) to perform testing to Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) requirements on automotive lighting components. Products found in compliance with ECE requirements are eligible for the "e" mark, necessary for market entry into the countries of the European Union (EU).
Intertek is the first independent testing laboratory with a North American location to offer access to ECE testing for automotive lighting, including photometry, environmental, chemical exposure, and mechanical testing.
All automotive lighting components must undergo photometry and spectral-color testing to ECE requirements to attain certification for EU market entry. This applies to such automotive products as headlight lamps, brake lamps, and turning signal lamps.
Prior to this agreement, North American automotive lighting manufacturers seeking testing for EU market entry were required to ship their products overseas and arrange for a witness from the VCA to monitor the ECE testing.
