Companies form telecommunications industry council for RosettaNet
Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 9/1/2003
RosettaNet is an e-business standards consortium created to simplify the electronic exchange of design and specification data among businesses. When vendors first started using database systems to organize their product specifications, each developed its own format, content, and structure. Now that designers have turned to the Internet for obtaining product data, the incompatibility of vendor databases prevents the automatic download of data into design tools. The RosettaNet consortium seeks to remove that impediment by creating open standards governing the exchange of product information on the Internet, including specifications, forecasts, and order and inventory management.
The founders of the Telecommunications Industry Council (TC) include BT, Cisco, Deutsche Telecom, Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, and Siemens. The council will take a leadership role in driving the adoption of the RosettaNet standard within the telecommunications industry and related supply chains. Stefan Langkamp of Siemens Information and Communications Networks, chairman and spokesperson of the Council, says, "Members of the TC Council share a strong, common vision around RosettaNet's proven e-business process standards and its ability to transcend industries. The future collaboration by this group will serve to enhance system-to-system integration within the telecom sector, creating opportunities for automation and extreme operational efficiencies."
