Phoenix X-Ray partners with ACI
Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 10/1/2003
A cooperative agreement with the American Competitiveness Institute (ACI) promises to allow Phoenix X-Ray Systems (Camarillo, CA) to share in the knowledge network of the institution. In exchange, ACI gains wider capability for nondestructive testing of electronic components and assemblies.
The nonprofit ACI is funded by the military for process development, testing, and training. Offering a range of support from component selection to design and system engineering, ACI assists the Department of Defense program acquisition offices in identifying and solving manufacturing-technology issues concerning major weapons systems.
The nondestructive analysis of identified failures is critical to maximizing quality and reliability. X-ray testing has long been a standard technique for qualifying components for aerospace applications.
The new agreement encourages extension of the approach to other systems as well. The partners expect a high degree of acceptance from customers.
The installation at ACI consists of the Phoenix X-Ray PCBA Analyzer with oblique-view at high magnification (OVHM) and a dual-mode (nano- and microfocus) x-ray tube. The facility, located outside Philadelphia, also contains a Phoenix X-Ray Systems & Services office.
