Multi-output power system supplies up to 2.4 kW

The XMP 2600 is a multi-output mainframe power system that users can customize by selecting up to eight of 22 different power modules ranging from 160 W to 2.4 kW. Designed for efficiently testing a variety of DUTs or for replacing multiple power supplies, the XMP 2600's mainframe controller software can instantly reconfigure the system to provide eight channels with different voltage and current outputs. Standard features include 99-step auto sequencing, built-in disconnect, automatic polarity reversal/isolation relays, and extensive DUT protection features. PXI tester tests wireless systems

The Model 3000 Series is a PXI-based test system for mobile-phone and other wireless systems. The system has four PXI modules, including the 3010 RF synthesizer module, the first PXI frequency synthesizer with a frequency range of 1.5 GHz to 3.0 GHz. Applications for the Model 300 include automated measurement of parametric performance of terminal transmitter and receiver characteristics; terminal TX and RX alignment and performance characterization for manufacturing; and research and development. Aeroflex, Plainview, NY. 516-694-6700; www.aeroflex.com.

DSR instrument provides up to 512 I/O channels

The GX5152 Series of PXI digital stimulus-response instruments is designed for bus emulation and high-speed digital test, including board test and ASIC/FPGA/CPLD test. The instrument can contain one master board and up to 15 slave boards, with a maximum of 512 digital I/O channels. Features include a trigger signal, 10-ns edge-placement resolution, and five memory SIMMS for a memory depth of 8 Mbytes. Geotest, Irvine, CA. 888-837-8297; www.geotestinc.com .

Kit senses pulses in air pressure

The FirstLook automotive diagnostic sensor kit gives users a way to diagnose automotive engine problems—such as burnt valves and faulty injectors—without having to dismantle the engine. FirstLook inserts into a vehicle's exhaust pipe or attaches (via adaptor) to its inlet manifold or fuel pressure regulator vacuum port and converts air pressure pulses into electrical signals that can be captured on an oscilloscope. The waveforms displayed indicate whether there are problems with specific cylinders or the injectors. Pico Technology, St. Neots, UK. 44-1480-396395; www.picotech.com .

Data-acquisition system aimed at portable apps

Heim Data's DiSC6 is a high-performance portable data-acquisition unit that is both rugged and compact. You can configure the DiSC6 to accept inputs from many different types of sensors, including ICP, accelerometers, microphones, CAN bus, strain gages, and artificial heads. An RPM impulse channel is available for order tracking, and the unit also includes both serial and parallel digital channels.

There are six signal module slots in the mainframe with an optional extension to 12, providing up to 72 synchronously sampled channels per system. The total system bandwidth is 640 kHz, with channel bandwidth from 150 Hz through 200 kHz adjustable on a per module basis.

You can synchronize multiple systems to enhance both channel capacity and system bandwidth. Recording media options include a 50-Gbyte AIT2 drive and a 72-Gbyte hard drive. An integrated time code generator/reader unit with GPS time synchronization ensures accurate annotation and logical access to recorded data. Control design and simulation software enhanced

MATRIXx 6.3 from National Instruments now runs under the most recent Windows and Solaris operating systems, Windows 2000/XP/NT and Solaris 9, and includes many updates and enhancements. The new version offers improved data visualization, better control over diagram printing, more comprehensive help, and enhanced modeling capabilities.

The data-visualization improvements allow users to plot data on 3-D graphs, while the modeling improvements lets design engineers organize their system models in a more hierarchical manner while maintaining accurate simulation results. National Instruments, Austin, TX. 800-258-7022; www.ni.com/matrix .

Data-acquisition system is Web-enabled

The SAT-14 is a high-performance, platform independent, multichannel simultaneous transient data-acquisition system. It features remote control, via any Web browser, over an Ethernet connection (up to 1 Gbit), and it can export data in Matlab and other standard file formats. Maximum sample rate is 10 Msamples/s on each channel. Scalar Acquisition Technology, Livingston, UK. 44-0-506-414806; www.scalaracquisitiontechnology.com .

Four-channel analyzer aimed at entry-level users

The four-channel Pimento is a compact, PC-based noise and vibration analyzer with entry-level pricing. While the basic system has only four channels, you can expand it to 24 channels, and the system uses 24-bit ADCs with a bandwidth of 20 kHz on all channels in real-time. The unit weighs less than 5 kg (11 lbs) fully loaded, and is just 6 cm high with a footprint the same size as a laptop. LMS North America, Troy, MI. 248-952-5664; www.lmspimento.com .

Test data management software demo available

A free demonstration of VI Technology's Arendar test and measurement data management software is now available on the company's Web site. The demonstration shows engineers and scientists how Arendar organizes and delivers test data without the complexities of designing and configuring databases. The demonstration also walks users through an example of how to configure, store, and view test and measurement data in a typical test application. You can view the demonstration online or order a free demonstration CD at the Arendar Test Data Management home page. VI Technology, Austin, TX. 512-327-3348; www.vi-tech.com .
