Igus tests cables with Skydrol fluid
Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 11/1/2003
Igus (E. Providence, RI) has completed a series of tests on its Chainflex cables with thermoplastic elastomer jackets to prove they can be used in environments containing Skydrol, a phosphate-ester hydraulic fluid. All major airframe manufacturers have approved the use of the fire-resistant Skydrol in their aircraft.
Materials used in a hydraulic system—including electrical cables—must be compatible with the fluid. Chainflex cables were tested for seven days immersed in Skydrol at a temperature of 158°F. The cables showed complete resistance to the damaging effects of the hydraulic fluid. www.igus.com.
