IEEE creates new engineering society
Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 11/1/2003
The IEEE will add a new technical society in 2004 with the Product Safety Engineering Society (PSES). The IEEE's 38th society will focus on safety engineering for equipment and devices in the scientific, engineering, industrial, commercial, and residential arenas.
The IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society plans to work closely with various IEEE Societies and Councils that include product safety engineering as a technical specialty and organize product safety events such as the Product Safety Workshop at the Electromagnetic Compatibility Society Symposium. The new society already has local groups in several cities that will be formed into chapters, and others will be started as demand dictates.
Governing the society is a 12-person board made up of six members of the Board of Directors belonging to other IEEE Societies and Councils and six members of the Technical Activities Board. Members of the society will elect replacements over a three-year period. Members who wish to join the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society may sign up during the 2003 renewal period at www.ieee.org/renew.
