Kit helps diagnose engine problems

Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 12/1/2003

The FirstLook automotive diagnostic sensor kit makes it easier for you to diagnose automotive engine problems, such as burnt valves and faulty injectors, without having to dismantle the engine. It inserts into a vehicle's exhaust pipe or attaches (via adaptor) to its inlet manifold or fuel pressure regulator vacuum port and converts air pressure pulses into electrical signals—which can be viewed and captured on an oscilloscope. The waveforms indicate when there are problems with cylinders or injectors. The FirstLook sensor is a piezoelectric device that requires no external power source and connects to an oscilloscope or data-acquisition board.
