Increased demandfor "intelligent" safety and comfort features in Europe has led to a corresponding boom in mechatronics systems, which include mechanical, electronics, and software components, according to a recent study by Frost & Sullivan. The study, "Mechatronics: The Future of the Automotive Industry," predicts the European mechatronics market will reach EUR 6.8 billion by 2010, up from EUR 5.2 billion in 2003.
Factors contributing to the growth of mechatronics include the demand for more intelligent safety features (such as anti-lock braking systems) and an increased demand for comfort features (such as power seats and automatic climate control). www.transportation.frost.com.
