Thanks, Larry
Russ Pratt, Publisher -- Test & Measurement World, 8/1/2004
If you have been receiving Test & Measurement World for more than the last 12 months, you have undoubtedly noticed a number of changes. These changes were initiated by our fearless leader and former publisher, Larry Maloney. Larry took over the reigns of T&MW in the spring of 2002 when the economy, and certainly the publishing industry, were at their worst.
While many publishers hunkered down and tried to cut their way to prosperity by sacrificing editorial quality and relaxing circulation value, Larry decided this was the time to improve what was already the leading test, measurement, and inspection publication. He took the novel approach of surveying readers to see what we could do to help them solve their daily problems and find out what they expected from a technical publication and Web site.
The result was taking what worked and changing what didn't. What emerged was a redesigned magazine that features engineering readers on each cover, a cleaner layout in print and online, and more information to help guide engineers in their daily journey.
Many might have thought that Larry was crazy, but the results have proved them wrong. Thanks to Larry's focused leadership, T&MW is stronger than ever, offering readers different article formats, a variety of demographic supplements that address specific technologies, and more useful information that helps engineers solve their day-to-day challenges.
Larry now sees his mission as complete and has decided to jump back into journalism, his true love. After taking the summer off, and hopefully working on his golf game, he will offer his words of wisdom as a freelance writer.
The T&MW staff thanks Larry for his focus, innovation, guidance, and sense of humor. We are committed to expanding his vision to providing the engineering community with information that assists you in your problem solving.
If you have ideas for ways we can make T&MW more useful to you, please let us know. A quality product is always a work in progress.
Thanks again, Larry. Hope you are enjoying the summer.
