Laser-measurement sensor system

Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 8/1/2004

EDITORS' CHOICE
Omron's new ZX Series laser-measurement sensor systems target a variety of applications, including chip orientation in PCB placement operations. Each system includes a single amplifier unit that supports 11 different sensing heads, eliminating the need to purchase unique amplifiers for each application. Available heads include eight visible red laser-reflecting versions (including diffuse and specular options with spot or line beams) and three through-beam versions.

The ZX Series includes a calculating module that compares two ZX sensor inputs, performs math functions, and activates output controls. Each amplifier includes two numeric displays and keys for setting values. A teaching function simplifies the setup of pass/fail determinations. Each system supports real-time transfer of analog output to a supervisory control and data-acquisition (SCADA) system. An optional communication module, with accompanying software, snaps onto each amplifier to allow communication with external logic to facilitate programming and datalogging.

Base price: $1850 to $2150, depending on sensor heads. Omron Electronics, Schaumburg, IL. www.omron.com/oei .
