Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 9/1/2004
PPM, a Cleveland, OH-based specialty electronic test-equipment firm, announced it has been awarded a contract from BAE Systems of the UK to supply the Joint Strike Fighter program with its R1L-E2 ruggedized ohmmeter/bonding meter. The first units recently shipped ahead of schedule.
The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program is the Department of Defense's focal point for defining an affordable next-generation strike aircraft weapon system. The system is being jointly developed by Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and BAE Systems. PPM will be supplying R1L-E2s to Lockheed Martin to support manufacturing and flight testing.
The R1L-E2 provides measurement of mechanical and electrical bonds in explosive environments. It conforms to UL 913 standards for intrinsically safe operation and has received the CE mark as well as approval to Canadian Standards Association requirements.
Cliff Nazelli, PPM's managing director of sales and marketing, said, "Applications for this bonding meter include any diesel or jet-fuel storage units, fuel tanks and system components, or transport lines where explosive fumes might create a hazard for operators using standard test instruments."
Development of the R1L-E2 included onsite engineering evaluation and test as well as cooperation between PPM and the BAE Systems team. www.ppminc.com.
