VXI chassis
Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 9/1/2004
The RHP 11-slot high-power VXI chassis includes a high-current VXI C-size monolithic backplane that features active termination and 96-pin high-current DIN connectors. High-frequency decoupling is provided at each slot, along with bulk distributed low-frequency decoupling. The RHP features a rear-plugging AC front end and either one or two front-plugging DC power modules. The Model RHP-1, with one DC power module, is rated 1460 W, while the Model RHP-2 has two modules for a combined rating of 2.2 kW.
To manage power distribution, the backplane uses a unique power routing technique and high-current connectors. AC input power factor is 0.99 with power factor correction. The chassis' ducted cooling system provides high volume and pressure performance. A high-pressure plug-in fan module provides 450 cfm at 0.4 in. of H2O, making the RHP suitable for high-density analog and digital VXI modules. Rear intake and top exhaust minimize the number of airflow turns for greater flow efficiency.
The rear-plugging fan panel also allows easy access for service or maintenance, with MTTR of less than 1 min. An RS-485 monitor (brought out via a rear-panel RS-485 D9 connector) tracks VXI voltages (+5, +3.3, +12, -12 VDC) as well as fan voltage (+12 VDC), fan speed, and intake and exhaust temperatures; typical measurement accuracy is within 1%. Filler panels and slot air blocks are available for vacant 6U slots. VXI receiver mounting options are also available. Pricing starts at $11,245 each for a minimum of five units; availability is 8 to 10 weeks ARO. Tracewell Systems, Westerville, OH. www.tracewellsystems.com.
