Fiber-optic-to-serial converter

Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 10/1/2004

Aimed at long-distance communication applications, such as intelligent transportation systems, Advantech's ADAM-4542 converts single-mode fiber-optic signals to RS-232/422/485 serial signals. It adds a redundancy feature that provides fault detection on the main connection between two modules, allowing communication to be automatically and seamlessly switched to a secondary connection. The ADAM-4542 uses single-mode fiber for transmissions up to 15 km and operates at wavelengths of 1310 nm. Advantech, Industrial Automation Group, Cincinnati, OH. www.advantech.com/eAutomation.
