BERTs analyze high-speed devices

Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 11/1/2004

Anritsu has added three options to its MP1763C pulse pattern generator and MP1764C/D 12.5-Gbps bit-error-rate testers (BERTs), which together form a BER test set. The 1/4-speed differential option for the pattern generator produces a differential output for both data and clock signals at 1/4 of a backplane's standard data rates, which range from 50 Mbps to 12.5 Gbps. Thus, you can simulate data on each lane of a four-lane bus such as PCI Express or XAUI.

The MP1764C/D BERTs have two new options. A clock-data recovery (CDR) option lets the instrument recover embedded clock from incoming data streams without the need for a separate CDR unit. When used with the differential input option, the BERTs can test high-speed differential devices such as line drivers and receivers.

Price for the MP1763C with 1/4 differential inputs is $93,100. The MP1764D with both the differential input and CDR options is $127,000. Anritsu, Morgan Hill, CA; www.us.anritsu.com .
