Switch system includes DMM
Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 11/1/2004
Agilent's 34980A switching system accepts eight switch modules from a family of 19 and it includes a 61/2-digit DMM for making voltage, current, and frequency. You can route signals directly to the DMM. The 19 modules include multiplexers, matricies, RF/microwave switches (20 GHz), and system control and utility modules.
Multiplexers are available in 40-channel, 70-channel, and 80-channel models. Matricies cover 4x8 and 4x16 widths. Microwave switches include a quad 1x4 1.5-GHz mux and a1x2 switch at either 4 GHz or 20 GHz. Utility modules include a 64-channel digital I/O module, a four-channel analog module, a multifunction data-acquisition module, and a breadboard.
The 34980A contains IEEE 488, USB, and Ethernet ports for remote control. It includes a Web server that lets you set up the switch modules with a browser (Ethernet connection only). You can check configurations, sequence switches, and send SCPI commands to the instrument.
Prices: mainframe with DMM—$2350; modules range in price from $495 for the breadboard to $2059 for a 20-GHz RF switch. Agilent Technologies, Palo Alto, CA; www.agilent.com/find/34980A .
