Cameras augment vehicle safety

Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 4/1/2005

ABI Research says the automotive market has begun to witness the emergence of onboard camera systems, used primarily for such applications as lane departure warning. The research firm says that in addition to watching the road ahead, the automotive cameras will also be used to monitor the driver and occupants for several new safety applications.

Through the use of special algorithms, these cameras will monitor the driver and check for conditions of distraction or drowsiness. Cameras will also be used to detect occupants as part of next-generation airbag systems. www.abiresearch.com.
