ZigBee RF system-on-chip

Staff -- Test & Measurement World, 11/1/2005

Contained in a tiny 7x7-mm 48-pin package, the CC2430 combines a 2.4-GHz, IEEE 802.15.4-compliant RF transceiver and a 32-MHz 8051 microcontroller for use in all kinds of ZigBee wireless network nodes. The CC2430 family comprises three devices offering 32, 64, and 128 kbytes of in-system-programmable flash memory. During receive and transmit modes, the system-on-chip consumes as little as 27 mA and 25 mA, respectively. The CC2430's sleep modes and short transition time to active mode make the device useful for applications requiring very long battery life. A ZigBee protocol stack (Z-Stack), tool-chain, and reference designs are available to speed development. Price: $3.30, $3.60, and $3.90 (high volume). Chipcon, www.chipcon.com.
