Data Translation to develop synthetic-instrument software

-- Test & Measurement World, 9/21/2006 5:06:00 AM

Anaheim, CA. Data Translation chose Autotestcon to announce an initiative to create an LXI-based software programming standard for synthetic instruments based on the company’s Measure Foundry software. The company is now identifying partners who plan to use LXI for synthetic-instrument applications.

At Autotestcon, the company demonstrated a system consisting of a variety of bench/rack-mount instruments under Measure Foundry control. The software could be said to “deconstruct” the instruments and reconfigure them as required for different applications.

“Measure Foundry is an intuitive drag and drop graphical interface saving the user both time and money,” said Fred Molinari, CEO and president. “Users create LXI-based measurement solutions for their application in a fraction of the time it takes with traditional text-based programming.”

Molinari listed several features of Measure Foundry for synthetic instruments: support for all IVI instrument classes, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters, switches, and signal generators; an IVI interface that eliminates the need for COM programming; thread-based design; support for GPIB, USB, PXI, VXI, and RS-232 in addition to LXI; a built-in installer; and support for SICL, VISA, and SCIPI in addition to IVI.
