Compact module packs isolated digital and serial I/O

Joining the Acces I/O line of USB embedded data-acquisition modules is a device with four optically isolated digital inputs, four Form C (SPDT) electromechanical relay outputs, and two field-selectable RS-232/422/485 serial communication ports—all in a compact 4x4x1.8-in. steel enclosure. You can use the Model USB-IIRO4-2SM to add portable, easy-to-install digital and serial capabilities to any PC or embedded system equipped with a USB port.
An OEM version of the USB-IIRO4-2SM supplies just the board without the enclosure and includes predrilled mounting holes that match the PC/104 form factor (without the bus connections). A custom high-speed function driver enables data throughput rates that are 50 to 100 times faster than the USB human interface device (HID) driver that comes with many comparable products. To simplify wiring connections, the isolated inputs and relay outputs are available via a mounted DB25 connector or, for OEMs, a 26-pin IDC vertical shrouded header. An additional USB input header is provided for embedded applications, along with a downstream USB port for connecting additional USB devices. The serial communication ports use DB9 connectors with adjacent LEDs that indicate port activity.
The USB-IIRO4-2SM works with most operating systems and comes with a free Linux (including MAC OS X) and Windows 98/NT/2000/XP/2003 compatible software package. This package contains sample programs and source code in Visual Basic, Delphi, C++ Builder, and Visual C++ for Windows.
