NI SignalExpress, software that lets you build applications without programming, is now part of the LabView family. Now called LabView SignalExpress, the $699 package lets you create applications for instrument control and data acquisition.
For instrument control, you can use LabView SignalExpress with any IVI-COM instrument driver, of which over 400 are available for free downloading at www.ni.com/idnet. Once you install a driver, you can configure your instrument for parameters such as range and trigger. Then, just connect the instrument to your PC and run it. To view your measurements, just drag and drop your instrument from an instrument list into a display such as an oscilloscope. Then, you can customize the display just as you can with LabView.
For data logging, LabView SignalExpress connects to any National Instruments data-acquisition device, whether connected through PXI, USB, or Ethernet. You then configure the device and can immediately start logging data.
LabView SignalExpress also gives you options for storing data to disk or exporting data to Excel and other applications. You can, for example, have LabView SignalExpress automatically open Excel and place data into a spreadsheet. It also lets you move data into e-mails for sending to colleagues.
LabView SignalExpress also has over 200 data-analysis functions that let you process your data. Functions include signal analysis, and statistical analysis. You can save any application as LabView code when you need to use it in a larger application or build custom user panels.
